BROOMSTRAW

“And didn’t she take a straw and check to see if the cake was done. Didn’t I see her do that? It’s witchcraft is what it is. How in all of nature can a broom straw predict if a cake is done.”

“There’s dough on the straw if the cake is not done. It’s a testing is all.”

“Science then and what’s worse… But I still think it witchcraft. The cake tasted of strawberries and honeycomb and it the middle of winter. And she divined it with a broom straw.”

Magic Mirror -- and a magical herb wash

MAGIC MIRROR

Thought, alone, can work to load electrically or magnet-ically any object -- such as working tools or herbs or stones. But there is an inherent energy within things, which, when applied can hold a charge.

This is important to know when making a mirror to use in scrying.

Scrying is not one of the easiest means of "knowing". It takes practice and it takes consistency and diligence. You have to test things that you "see" to make sure it isn't just your imagination. Although at times, your imagination will tell you a lot too.

One of the simplest ways to make a magic mirror is to take a clock lens and paint the rounded side with flat black paint. You'll be looking into the concave side. You could also use a dark colored stone. Some use a crystal or rose quartz. A bowl of water in which you drop black ink will work as a portal, or scrying mirror.

Your mirror can be simply a portal to use in "seeing" what you need to see. It can be a focus for meditation. It can be a way to send (or receive) energy. It can be used as a protective device – like a shield.

You can make an herbal preparation -- something such as yarrow flowers or mugwort in rainwater, boiled and strained. Paint the inner surface  (the unpainted surface) with this with full intent and concentration, "telling" the glass the purpose for which you are constructing the mirror.

TO MAKE A SIMPLE

[A ‘Simple’ is a preparation using only one herb.]

Take a handful of fresh or dry herbs. Boil water and while it is boiling, pour it over the herbs and cover. Allow to steep for 20 minutes. Another way is to put the herb in cold water, let it stand overnight. The heat nearly to boiling and remove, cool,  and strain.

Some herbs (such as motherwort) can be placed in cold water and allowed to stand, 6 hours or so Then place over heat and simmer (twenty minutes is good) and strain.

To make your wash for charging the mirror or other altar tools, pour cold water over the herb or herbs until covered completely. Boil for about 20 minutes. Cool, but leave the lid on the pot and strain the decoction. Put this on the fire again and allow it to decoct slowly to about half the amount . Cool and for better preservation, mix with the same quantity of alcohol.

Other ways are to put the plants in equal parts into a glass bottle and pour pure alcohol over them until covered and allow to extract for about 28 days in a warm spot. Then filter.

You can put all the herbs (of one element) together into a pot and bring to a boil for about a half hour and then cool, strain and boil the liquid until it turns out as thick as possible and then add the same quantity of alcohol as you have of the extract.

You can prepare the herbs each one singly and then add parts together and you see fit or as your intuition tells you. (Not intended for internal use or medicinal purposes.)
